Holiday Recipe and Blog Swap

Love and Eating -what the holidays are all about!

#Holiday #Recipe #love #passion #power #thedarkanddamagedheartsseries #january292017

So, I joined this really sweet holiday recipe and blog swap with some fantastic authors. It's pretty sweet and pretty simple. We agree to post information about one another's upcoming release on our blog, along with a blurb, an excerpt and a bit about the writer. BUT because it's holly jolly time and everyone is getting ready to bust out the mistletoe and advent calendars, we're also exchanging recipes! Win-win, right? You find a new author and a new book boyfriend or two to fall in love with for the holidays; get swept away with kinky vampires and other naughty paranormals, while the harsh winter winds threaten to tear the shingles off your roof, AND you get a tried and true holiday favorite to wow your family and friends with.

I'm going to kick the blog-fest off with my own recipe, which will be circulating the blog circuit for the next month. But don't forget to check back for new books and new recipes.

Cranberry Bliss Bars – BETTER THAN STARBUCKS! And cheaper too!

For years I would make it a sinful habit to treat myself at least once a week to a cranberry bliss bar and a chai tea latte with egg nog, because they’re only around for a short time, so the belly needs to stock up. But then I decided to try and make my own, that way I could eat a whole pan if I wanted to, and in the comfort of my own home (in the dark in a corner with crumbs all over my face…you get the picture). And voila, I found the perfect recipe that mimics the original, if not improves upon it. Now I just have to figure out how to copy their chai lattes with egg nog and I never have to leave my house again!

Cranberry Bliss Bars
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees (325 for a glass or dark pan). Prepare a 10x15 by lining it with parchment paper or use a non-stick spray.
  2. BARS: With an electric mixer, beat together softened butter and sugars 3-5 minutes until light; gently blend in eggs and orange extract (don't overbeat eggs). Add the flour, baking powder, and ginger and beat briefly. Add the cranberries and chips, stirring just until incorporated.
  3. Spread thick batter in prepared 10x15 pan. Bake 350 for 20-24 minutes until light brown AT EDGES and a skewer tests clean. Don't overbake or your bars will be dry. Let it cool completely. NOTE: If you use a 9x13 pan, the bars will be thicker and will take 26-28 minutes.
  4. FROSTING: Blend cream cheese and butter until fluffy. Add orange extract and confectioners sugar and beat until frosting is fluffy and spreadable (adding 1 t. milk if needed). Spread evenly over COOLED bars.
  5. GARNISH: Use a zester to remove rind from an orange; sprinkle zest over frosted bars. Chop 1/3 cup Craisins coarsely; sprinkle over frosted bars.
  6. DRIZZLE: Mix white chocolate and oil in a glass measuring cup. Microwave 1 minute; stirring every 15 seconds until melted. Use a fork or whisk to drizzle the white chocolate diagonally across the bars.
  7. Allow one hour for the white chocolate to set before cutting. **To make signature Starbuck triangles, cut into 20 large squares (5 cuts by 4 cuts with the knife). Then cut each square in half diagonally to create triangles.

·         BARS

  • 1cup butter (2 sticks, very soft)
  • 1cup brown sugar (some cooks reduce this to 2/3 cup)
  • 13cup granulated sugar
  • 3large eggs
  • 2teaspoons orange extract or 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2cups flour
  • 1 12teaspoons baking powder
  • 1teaspoon ground ginger
  • 34cup craisins (dried cranberries)
  • 34cup white chocolate chips

·         FROSTING

  • 3ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2tablespoons butter, softened
  • 3cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1teaspoon orange extract (or vanilla)

·         TOPPING

  • 13cup craisins, chopped
  • 1 -2tablespoon grated orange rind
  • 13cup white chocolate chip
  • 12teaspoon canola oil

But of course I still need to give you another teaser. Enjoy! xoxo

“Did you partake in anything at the party?” He grabbed the shower nozzle and started rinsing my hair. I tilted my head back and closed my eyes again, relishing the warm water and how wonderful it felt cascading down my skin.
“Would it change your opinion of me if I did?” I opened one eye and looked at him.
“No,” he smiled. “Probably not. You can probably tell, I’m hard as a fucking rock back here, so I’m obviously not turned off by the fact that you went to a sex party.”

I let out a small laugh and closed my eyes again as he started working the conditioner into my hair. “I eventually felt comfortable enough with the people and incredibly turned on by the whole damn thing that I did part-take in a few things…”

In Blood We Trust By: Elodie Colt

2078. The Future, as it was once called. A better time you imagine?
Most would say yes.

Jordan would say they’d switched one evil for another…
Ever since the SDCT—the Scientific Department for Cancer Treatment—made a scientific breakthrough, creating a cure for cancer and therefore saving billions of lives from the cruel disease over the last few decades, the world seems to be a better place.
But the Cure came with a side effect.

The Recipients need to consume human blood along with it, and as Jordan has the rarest blood type, she needs to donate every week. To keep a tight legal structure between Recipients and the rest of the population, the FDR—Federal Division for Recipients—was created, making her job as Sergeant at the NYPD hell on earth.

The real trouble, though, begins the day she becomes burdened with a case that will force her to extend the law to its limits. Worse still—the new Lieutenant, Aiden Davis, has set an eye on Jordan, and it doesn’t help that he is an unrelenting, too-hot-to-be-allowed ex-marine and more intense than she can bear. But her past makes it impossible to get involved with anyone without resurfacing memories of the one fateful night she desperately wants to forget.

And when the one man she’d never wanted to lay eyes upon again—the man who had inflicted pain on her worse than anyone could ever imagine, the man who had drained her until there was nothing left—shows up once again, her growing attraction toward the new Lieutenant seems to be the least of her problems…

Elodie lives in the outskirts of Vienna, Austria, with her longtime boyfriend. She is not a native English speaker, but that doesn’t keep her from putting her fantasies on paper in that beautiful language. Never trained as a professional writer, she started writing as a hobby, which quickly grew into an obsession.

Elodie has an unhealthy addiction to chocolate cookies – which is why she forces herself to go to the gym twice a week – has a weakness for electronic music, and in her spare time she can be found exploring movie databases for the latest DVD releases.

Additionally, she’s busy with reading and writing and gets easily lost in Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and Erotica. In her own works, she likes to create rich dystopian stories which consist of bold heroines, sexy guys, and hot romances.

Her biggest idol is the British author, Stephanie Hudson, author of the epic saga “Afterlife”. Elodie secretly hopes to get the chance to meet with Stephanie one day, and talk to her about how she created the greatest story ever written.

Sex, Heat and Hunger: Part 1
The Dark and Damaged Hearts Series Book 3
Coming March 2017
#romance #love #sex #heat #hunger #thedarkanddamagedheartsseries #hugehands #sexy #oldspice #EmmaandJames

His hands were huge, like super huge! You can tell a lot about a person from their hands. And these were capable hands. Hands of a man who worked hard and didn’t just push a pencil all day; trimmed nails with plenty of calluses, and the occasional scar to show he dove right in when it came to dirty work. A man’s man in gentleman’s clothes.
But more noticeably, than his big hands which at that moment I suddenly ached to have on me, was what had to be one of the most intoxicating but not at all over whelming scent of man; an alluring mix of spice, woods and confidence. Like he’d just chopped down enough trees to make a log house and then swiped Old Spice under his arms -it was hot! I looked up from my phone that I’d been busy wiping clean of my face sweat, make up and oil, into piercing cobalt blue eyes, and a cocky but adorable smirk on an even more adorable mouth -scratch that, a sexy, delicious and unbelievably kissable mouth. My core clenched as I envisioned that mouth traveling down my body and ending between my legs. Holy shit, where did that thought come from? Where did YOU come from Mr. Sexy Mouth?
My mouth hung open for what felt like hours, but was probably closer to two or three seconds as I took in tall, dark and dangerously handsome sitting next to me, sipping on a glass of some belly-warming amber liquid. He had a nice face. A hard face. An older face. There was nothing baby about him, with edgy angles and bold lines; maybe that’s where the dangerous came into play. With both a compelling and disconcerting look, and a presence that suggested intelligence and experience, and when his eyes locked on mine, I felt as if the whole world had been put on pause, the air sparked and sizzled between us. Did he feel it too?

Saturday, 12 November 2016

Every other month my local romance authors group gets together for four hours on a Saturday. And in addition to learning the ropes and  getting immensely inspired by these incredible women, we also do workshops to improve our craft. Because we can always improve ourselves, and if you're not moving forward, you're only moving backwards.

Today's workshop was collages. We were to tap into a different part of the right side of our brains, because as writer's we're constantly using the right side of our brains, the creative and artistic side. But today we went visual -literally.

I've never been a big collager myself. If I'm going to get my craft on I might paint something cute for a kid's room or do some felt art like finger puppets for my daughter. I'm practical almost to a fault, so unless it's useful in some way I don't usually find it enjoyable. But today was different.

I wasn't actually looking forward to the collaging part of the afternoon, I had no idea what I was going to, no real inspiration or innovation. But once I started flipping through the magazines, it became incredibly relaxing, almost therapeutic. This past week was a rough one. My kid's been sick and not sleeping, so in turn I'm not sleeping. And although what I thought I needed was to get home and write, it turns out what I really needed was to sit down with scissors and glue and bust out my inner collage-master.

The one on the left was my first masterpiece. We had one magazine and thirty minutes. I call it "Calming". It's images of beauty and nature, things that to me seemed zen. And after the week I had, I am in some serious need of any and all things zen. It's about self-care and self-love. Because if you can't love yourself, why should anyone else?

The one on the right was inspired by the new book I'm working on. And no, the cactus at the top is not meant to be an "eggplant", get your minds out of the gutter. It's because the hero is a prickly character. But the new story is all about lust, sex and a serious power struggle between two alphas who both like to be on top. Although the book remains untitled at the moment, I call collage "Hot and Bothered".

I can't say I'll sit down on my own and start collaging, because again, where would I put them? But I can confidently say that I came away from our meeting this afternoon having been proved wrong and genuinely happy about it.

...“There is definitely something going on. We both feel it.” He stepped forward and motioned to tuck a strand of hair behind my ear, but I moved back  and batted his hand out of the way.
“You need to leave.”
“I’m not going anywhere until you tell me why.”
“Fine,” I lifted my shoulder to feign disinterest, “you weren’t very good in bed.”
He let out a huff of a laugh and took another bite of his cupcake, “That’s bull shit and you know it. You’re not a very good liar you know? Try again.”
“I’m not supposed to date clients.”
“Something tells me you’ve never let that stop you before. And I called Lacy, that receptionist, and asked if that was a policy. She said it wasn’t. Keep trying.” He rested his hip against the counter, a smug smirk playing on his lips.
I took a deep breath, “Why do you need a reason? I’m just not interested. I like you well enough but I’m just not that interested.” That’s right Kendra, if you say it enough you might just convince yourself, as well. “I’m sorry. Can we please just leave it at that? I’ll transfer you to another trainer so things aren’t awkward.”
“I don’t want someone else. And I don’t believe you, I saw your face when Alexa kissed me last night, you were jealous. But…,” he cocked his head in thought, “I’ll leave you alone if you agree not to drop me as a client.”
“You’re not worried it will be too awkward?”
“I’ll try if you will.”
I let out a loud sigh and crossed my arms, “Okay. Fine. But I reserve the right to pass you off to someone else if it’s not working.”
“This is happening whether you like it or not. You want me just as much as I want you. And I’ll wait as long as I have to. I’m incredibly patient.”
“You’re wrong,” I whispered, looking down at my bare feet, desperate not to let him see how he really made me feel.

Okay! So, I'm the newest of the newbs when it comes to all things bloggy, so please bear with me. I'm not exactly sure how it goes, or what to talk about. These days I spend the majority of my time ready mommy blogs and silently sighing when I learn that I'm not the only woman out there who has had fleeting thoughts of selling her child on Etsy and using the money to fund a live-aboard trip to the Galapagos. Kids are time suckers. And sometimes they just suck. I'm excited to apart of this diverse and talented group of women and I can't wait for my books to start rolling out and I can really dive in deep and get to know my readers.
